Their narrow frames make them easy to handle in busy places too.

  • What is a travel scooter?

    A travel scooter is a compact, lightweight mobility scooter designed to disassemble into smaller pieces for easy storage and transportation in a car boot. They're Class 2 scooters, which means they can be used on pavements and footpaths only. We also include folding scooters in this range.

  • What's the difference between a travel scooter and a pavement scooter?

    The main difference is portability. Travel scooters are designed to break down into smaller and lighter pieces for putting in a car boot, making them ideal if you want to take your scooter out and about. Pavement scooters are generally bigger and heavier. They often have more features like suspension, a bigger seat, and a more battery power with a longer range. But they can't always be disassembled - although most can.

  • What does Class 2 mean for a mobility scooter?

    Class 2 scooters are restricted to a maximum speed of 4mph and are only allowed on pavements, footpaths, and pedestrianised areas. They can only be used on a road if a pavement is blocked, or if you are crossing a road. They don't need to be registered with the DVLA and you don't need a licence to use one.   • How do I choose the right travel scooter for my car boot?

    The key things to check are the weight of the heaviest part when disassembled, and the dimensions of the stacked pieces against your boot space. Most travel scooters break down into 4 to 6 parts, and the heaviest part is usually the main body, or batteries on scooters with more range. If lifting is a concern, look for models where the heaviest single piece is under 15kg - you can find this information under specifications on the product pages.   • Can I try before I buy?

    Absolutely. Our occupational therapist Natasha Bruce-Jones recommends it. Choosing a mobility scooter is a very personal decision, and the best way to find the right fit is to visit your nearest CareCo showroom and take a few models for a test drive.   • Can I take my mobility scooter on a plane?

    Yes, so long as meets some strict requirements. Lithium-powered scooters with batteries under a certain watt-hour threshold (currently a single 300Wh battery) can usually be taken on board, subject to airline approval. Scooters with non-spillable / sealed lead-acid batteries are generally allowed too, but airline restrictions can apply.   • Are travel scooters available with VAT relief?

    Yes. If you have a long-term illness or disability you may be eligible to purchase a travel scooter free of VAT, which can represent a significant saving. The process is straightforward: you simply complete a short eligibility declaration at the time of purchase, online or over the phone. Our team can guide you through it.
