Car Boot Scooters

Car boot scooters are the best option if you drive and use a mobility scooter. These scooters dismantle into small and light parts for easy storage in a car boot, or fold up and are light enough to be lifted into a car boot. They are all 4mph scooters for pavement use.

Car boot mobility scooters are pavement scooters that have been designed to dismantle quickly and easily lifted into a car. In most models, the chair comes off and the motor section disconnects from the main chassis and tiller. Batteries can usually be quickly removed too. The individual parts are therefore much lighter than folding mobility scooters.

  • What actually makes a scooter a car boot scooter?

    It breaks down into pieces light enough for one person to lift into a car boot without help. That's really it. Most split into three to five parts, and the heaviest bit should ideally come in under 15kg. The key thing is that you shouldn't need a second pair of hands every time you want to go somewhere.

  • How do I know if a scooter will fit in my car boot?

    Check the dimensions of the largest piece against your boot space. If you're not sure, bring your car into one of our mobility showrooms and we'll try it before you buy. It sounds obvious but it's worth doing, because boots vary a lot even on similarly sized cars.

  • Are car boot scooters only for short trips?

    Mostly yes, though some models go further than you might expect. Many boot scooters will cover 10 to 15 miles on a charge, which is plenty for a day out shopping or visiting family. If you regularly need to travel longer distances independently, we have models that can go 25-30 miles, such as the X-Go Pinnacle and the Li-Tech Marathon.

  • Is an aluminium scooter lighter than a regular one?

    Yes, noticeably so. Aluminium frames weigh significantly less than steel, and when you're lifting a scooter in and out of a car boot regularly, that difference matters. Some aluminium models have a heaviest section of under 10kg. They're also rust-proof, which helps if the scooter lives in a garden shed or damp garage.

  • Do car boot scooters qualify for VAT relief?
