Folding mobility scooters fold into a single compact unit rather than dismantling into separate parts, which makes them quicker to stow and easier to handle. Manual models are the lightest we sell and can be lifted into a car boot by one person. Auto-folding models collapse at the press of a button, some in under 10 seconds, with no bending required. About Our Folding Scooters

Folding scooters are Class 2, so they are for pavements, footpaths and inside shops and public buildings. Off-board charging means you can store the scooter outside or in a garage while the battery charges indoors.   • Should I choose a folding scooter or a travel scooter?

    Folding scooters are perfect if you’re looking for simplicity and speed - they usually collapse in one simple motion and stay in one manageable piece. Some auto-folding models fold up in less than 10 seconds at the touch of a button, no bending down required. A folding scooter means you only have one piece to move, however, it’s likely to be heavier than the individual pieces that a travel scooter would break down into. It takes a little longer to take a travel scooter apart, but if the weight of the individual pieces is a deciding factor for you then a travel scooter is probably a better choice. 

  • What's the difference between manual folding and auto-folding scooters?

    With a manual folding scooter, you fold the frame yourself by lifting or pushing a simple mechanism. Auto-folding scooters do it at the touch of a button. Some even come with a remote control, so you can fold and unfold without bending down at all. Auto-folding tends to work better for people with limited hand strength or restricted mobility.

  • Are manual folding scooters as good as auto-folding ones?

    The lightest models we sell are manual folders, including the Micromus, which is one of the lightest folding scooters available anywhere. With a little practice most people find they fold just as quickly as an automatic mechanism, and they tend to have fewer components to go wrong.   • How light are folding scooters, can I manage them alone?

    Most CareCo folding scooters weigh between 15kg and 25kg. Because they fold into one unit rather than separate pieces, one person can usually manage them independently. Some models have a carry handle and a removable battery to keep the lift weight down further. The lightest mobility scooters are travel scooters which break down into smaller parts.

  • What’s the lightest folding scooter you sell?

    The brilliant Micromus Folding Mobility Scooter is at the very lightest end of the range, weighing in at just 15.4kg when the battery is removed (16.9kg with the battery in place). That’s a bit less than a packed suitcase. It combines a lightweight-yet-strong aluminium frame with a carbon fibre tiller stem to be as light as possible, without compromising on comfort or range. Even though it’s car boot sized and airline friendly, the Micromus will still take you an impressive 8.2 miles. 

  • How long do folding scooter batteries last?

    All of our folding mobility scooters feature lithium-ion batteries, which have a typical lifespan of 2-4 years. Whilst lithium batteries are a bit more of an investment, they generally last longer than the alternative lead-acid batteries which usually require replacing after 12-18 months. 

  • Do folding scooters have a shorter range than standard scooters?

    Generally yes. Folding scooters tend to have smaller batteries to keep the weight down, so typical ranges run between 9 and 20 miles. That's more than enough for most day-to-day trips. If you regularly need to go further, a larger mobility scooter might be a better fit.

  • Are folding scooters suitable for holidays and travelling?

    Folding scooters are among the most travel-friendly options available, which is one of the main reasons people choose them. Many come with airline-friendly lithium batteries, and their compact folded size makes them easy to stow in a car boot, a taxi or at an airport. Always check the battery's watt-hour rating and confirm with your airline before flying, as policies do vary.

  • Are folding scooters available with VAT relief?
