Self-propelled wheelchairs are great for all-day, everyday travel, but this does mean they need to be extra comfortable. Lucky, then, that the CareCo Ergo Pro lets you customise your comfort. Unlike a standard sling-back backrest, the backrest on this wheelchair can be adjusted until you find a supportive position that reduces pressure in any troublesome spots across your back. Both the padded backrest and seat are removable for easy cleaning, too. Put all that together with height-adjustable armrests, a padded seat and mesh side panels that are softer, lighter and comfier, and you can see why we think this is one of the most ergonomically-friendly wheelchairs around.
SAFE FOR USE IN A MOTOR VEHICLE
This wheelchair has been tested and approved by UTAC in a controlled environment in accordance with ISO 7176-19, meaning it can safely be used as a seat in a motor vehicle.
A wheelchair that hasn’t been crash tested may be unsafe in the event of an accident if used as a seat in a motor vehicle. Emergency vehicles, taxis and buses may refuse to transport an uncertified wheelchair.
A smooth mover
The CareCo Ergo Pro’s solid tyres reduce rolling resistance and remove any worries about punctures, so they’re perfect for potholed pavements and other troublesome terrain. The quick-release mechanism means you can whip them off in a jiffy when you need to store your wheelchair or squeeze it through a tight gap. You’ve also got the benefit of user-operated brakes on the wheels as well as rear anti-tip wheels, so if you propel yourself a little too powerfully or your attendant leans the chair too far backwards on the way up a kerb, you’ll be protected from the wheelchair tipping over.
The perfect daily companion
It’s simple. Everyday travel is just made easier with this crash-tested wheelchair. For car boot storage, the half-folding backrest, quick-release wheels and removable footrests transform it into a compact package. When you need the help of an extra pair of hands, the handles on the back are fitted with brakes for safe control. And with an overall carry weight of between 11.24 kg and 13.34 kg (depending on seat width), it’s relatively easy to lift into a car or an out-the-way storage spot.
