Do You Know Your Letterbox from Your Waterfall? Armchair Back Cushions Explained

October 20, 2021 -
Chair back types

We understand that a riser recliner chair is not just a practical piece of furniture, it should also be a comfortable chair. While a riser recliner is often needed to help with lifting you to standing position, as well as reclining you to a comfortable position for a perfect snooze, it must also be comfortable.

A good armchair is one of life's little luxuries, and while all our chairs are made with comfort in mind, we know that everybody has a different opinion of what makes the perfect armchair.

This is why we offer a range of back options on our premium British made 4 motor riser recliners. Because we often get asked what the difference between the back options are, we've put together a brief guide that we hope helps you to pick the perfect chair.

The Waterfall Back

waterfall back The Waterfall back is considered the most supportive of armchair back cushions.

Waterfall backrests feature sections that overlap each other, resembling a waterfall.

This style normally allows the user to adjust the amount of padding inside each section to tailor it to your needs, and provides a very soft feel on your back, that some people find is the ultimate in comfort.

The Button Back

The Buttonback style of backrest is inspired by traditional sofa suites and chairs, and is ideal for those looking for a simple, classic design.

The back has many buttons making a dimpled effect on the seat, that creates a firmer and flatter back cushion, so if you prefer an armchair with less give that supports your back in a fixed position, a button back armchair is a great choice.

The Lateral Back

The Lateral Back has two side cushions along with the 3 horizontal back cushions, that provide excellent lateral support to the lower back.

The lateral back provides the comfort of a waterfall back with additional side cushions that provide excellent support and give a more snug feeling.

This especially nice for slimmer and more petite people who do not fill a standard chair.

The Letterbox Back

The Letterbox Back is similar to the button back in that the design provides a firmer cushion that always looks fantastic in leather.

With the letterbox back design, the back cushion has two horizonal lines, giving the centre cushioned area a letterbox look.

All our 4 motor riser recliners come with these back options, along with a range of fabric options. If you wish to try a riser recliner before you order, or select from a wider range of fabrics, pay a visit to your nearest CareCo mobility showroom.
