Self-propelled wheelchairs offer complete independence and are ideal for day to day mobility if you still have good upper body mobility and strength. The large rear wheels on self-propelled wheelchairs are fitted with hand rims, giving you the leverage to propel the wheelchair forwards or backwards without assistance.

All CareCo self-propelled wheelchairs are also fitted with comfortable ergonomic push-handles for a bit of extra help when necessary. The push-handles are particularly useful when dealing with high kerbs and thresholds.

The rear wheels on self-propelled wheelchairs can usually be removed very quickly using the quick-release button, which is useful if you need to fit the wheelchair through narrow doorways. The footplates and front castors can also be removed. This, along with half-folding backrests and seats, helps to make storage and transportation of the wheelchair much easier.
