Bariatric Wheelchairs

Getting out and about can be a challenge when you’re living with limited mobility, and it’s often even trickier for people living in larger bodies. Bariatric wheelchairs are designed with reinforced frames, strong materials, and wider seats, to ensure that we can offer mobility for everyone - regardless of size. Once you find a heavy duty wheelchair to suit you, you’ll be able to feel safe and supported when you’re on the move.

About Our Bariatric Wheelchairs

Heavy duty wheelchairs need to be strong and sturdy to keep you safe and comfortable, and that’s exactly what we had in mind with our design features.

Our bariatric wheelchair frames are constructed from strong materials such as carbon steel, in the case of the Explorer, or aluminium, like the wheelchairs in our proLite VOLAR 10 line. They feature reinforced joints which help to ensure that the wheelchair won’t collapse, fold, or twist under the pressure of everyday use.

If a carer or loved one assists you in a transit chair, our transit models are designed with ergonomic push handles and cushioned tyres. These make it much more comfortable and convenient to push across longer distances.

That comfort isn’t just reserved for carers, though. Many of our self-propelled and transit models, such as the proLite Volar 10 Comfort Self Propelled and the Ergo Pro Transit, feature padded backs and seats to ease pressure when you’re spending longer stints in your wheelchair.

If you need a bit more support, adding a gel wheelchair cushion is a great way to promote good posture and alleviate sores. As our Occupational Therapist, Natasha Bruce-Jones, says “Cushions are an essential part of seated comfort for everyone”.
