Ramps

When you’re in your wheelchair or using your scooter, there’s nothing worse than coming across a step or threshold that you can’t get up or over. Ramps are an easy way to make the world more accessible to you. Many are lightweight and can be moved around with you for when you need them, and we even have foldable and rollable options if you need something super compact.

About Our Ramps

Adding a ramp can make a huge difference to daily life if you’re one of the many people who uses a wheelchair, powerchair, scooter, or wheeled walking aid regularly.

Doorways are a common challenge, but as our Mobility Researcher Jon points out, there’s an easy fix. “If you only have a small step over the threshold, then a rubber threshold ramp is a good solution”. Our guide to creating a wheelchair-accessible home has more brilliant tips and advice for making your home work for you.

If you need to take a ramp out and about with you, perhaps for a step you encounter regularly or for loading into a car or van, a collapsible option would be a great choice. At CareCo, we have a rolling ramp with a compact carry case and a number of different folding options. The Clever Multi-Fold Ramp also has a durable non-slip surface so it performs well even on rainy days.

We even have an ultra-light carbon fibre option. Weighing in at just 3kg (6.6lbs), the iLite Zenva Carbon Fibre Ramp can support up to 300kg (47st 3lbs) and folds neatly to slot into your car boot.

Scooter and Wheelchair Ramp FAQs

  • Are there ramps which can be transported?

Absolutely - we have folding and rolling options which are lightweight and can be easily popped into a car boot for whenever you might need them.

  • Do ramps need to be permanently secured?

Most of our ramps can either be used temporarily or installed for permanent use. Many wheelchair ramps have a lip which can be slotted into a step or threshold so that they can simply be lifted out when no longer needed. However, we also have options with pre-drilled holes that can be fixed to your step or stair to be made permanent.

  • Are wheelchair ramps easy to install?

Many of our ramps are designed to simply be popped into place, with a lip to keep them secure over the surface of the stair, step, or threshold. If you’d like to make your ramp permanent, pre-drilled holes make it easy to know where to affix it to the surface. Please note, our home installation teams cannot make permanent alterations to your home such as drilling holes, but a local handyperson should be able to help with your installation.

  • Do the ramps come in different sizes?

Most of our ramps have different size options so you can pick the perfect length for you. Be sure to check that your ramp will be long enough to give you an appropriate gradient, especially if you’re using a powerchair or scooter. If you need help choosing the right ramp for your home, our helpful mobility advisors are on hand 7 days a week for a friendly chat.
