About Our Lamps and Lighting

Our range covers a few distinct needs. For reading, writing and hobbies, daylight LED lamps with flexible arms give you bright, glare-free light exactly where you need it. For night-time safety, automatic night lights switch on as it gets dark and illuminate the route to the bathroom without disturbing sleep. Remote-controlled lamps let you adjust lighting from a chair or bed without getting up.

Natasha, our occupational therapist, notes in her article on rebuilding confidence after a fall that improving lighting is one of the simplest changes you can make to reduce risk at home, particularly in hallways, on stairs and in the bedroom at night.

A good lamp pairs well with an over chair table, a magnifying glass and a reacher grabber if you spend a lot of time reading or working from a chair.

Lamps and Lighting FAQs

  • What type of lighting is best for reducing eye strain?

Daylight LED bulbs are the best choice for close work. They produce a bright, clear light that mimics natural daylight, which the eye finds easier to read under for extended periods. Avoid warm yellow bulbs for reading; they are comfortable for ambient lighting but tiring for any task requiring focus. A flexible arm that lets you direct the light onto the page rather than into your eyes makes a significant difference too.
  • What is the best light for reading in a chair or in bed?

A floor lamp like our Lumos 2in1 Floor Lamp with a flexible or gooseneck arm positioned over your shoulder gives the most natural reading light. It keeps the light on the page and out of your line of sight. If you read in bed, a clip-on or bedside lamp with an adjustable head works better than a ceiling light, which tends to create glare on the page. Daylight bulbs are better than warm white ones for anything requiring focus.
  • What is the difference between a daylight bulb and a standard LED?

Both are energy-efficient and long-lasting. The difference is colour temperature. Standard LEDs tend toward warm white, which is pleasant for ambient lighting but not ideal for reading or detailed work. Daylight LEDs have a higher colour temperature that is closer to natural light, which makes them easier on the eyes for tasks requiring concentration or visual detail.
