About Our Transfer Seats

Our CareCo transfer seats are designed for both home and care settings, with foldable, lightweight frames and reliable brakes. Natasha, our occupational therapist, covers safe transfer techniques in her guide to moving safely at home, which is worth reading before purchasing to make sure you choose the right aid for the specific transfer you need.

Transfer Seat FAQs

  • What is the difference between a transfer chair and a standard wheelchair?

A transfer chair is designed primarily for moving someone from one place to another over short distances, rather than for self-propelled everyday use. They are typically lighter, fold more compactly and are easier for a carer to manoeuvre than a standard wheelchair.

  • What is a patient turner and when would I use one?

A patient turner helps someone move between sitting and standing, or between a bed and a chair, using supportive handles and a pivoting base. They suit people who have some strength but find the rotational movement of a transfer difficult or unsafe without support.

  • Are transfer seats suitable for home use?

Both products in our range are designed to work in home settings as well as care environments. The foldable frames store flat when not needed, which is practical in a smaller home.

  • Are transfer seats available with VAT relief?

That's right, VAT is not applied to most medical items. If you have a qualifying long-term illness or disability, you can purchase a transfer seat free of VAT. See our VAT relief info page.
