Natasha's Recommended Riser Recliners
What are the benefits of a Riser Recliner?
Whether sitting in your chair to eat, rest or read, you need your chair to be comfortable. If you have joint problems, weaknesses or you struggle to stand, a riser recliner chair could offer you the additional support you need to remain independent. With options to adjust the chairs position to meet your exact comfort and posture needs, you can recline back to have a doze or use the rise function to help you stand. Being able to stand from your chair without help and feeling steady when you are on your feet will keep you independent indoors and allow you to go about your day to day tasks with more confidence.
With CareCo's comprehensive range of sizes, fabrics, motors and colours, I love the fact that you can have a chair that complements your existing furniture, without standing out as equipment. It is important that your house still looks and feels like a home regardless of your needs and difficulties. As each chair can differ in height, width and backrest design it is important that you know exactly what you need. Take a look at my tips and favourite riser recliners to help you make the right decision for your needs.
Waterfall backs - Highly adjustable cushioning that can be adjusted to meet your comfort and posture needs with no change to the appearance of the chair.
Dual motors - They allow more freedom of positioning by operating the footrest and backrest functions separately, so you can sit upright to drink but still keep your feet elevated.
Seat dimensions - With the correct width, depth and height of seat you will find more comfort and better pressure care is provided.
Lateral supports - The addition of extra cushioning to the sides of your torso can help you stay upright and more comfortable.
When you sit back in the chair do your feet still touch the ground?
Ensure a hand thickness is left between hips/thighs and arm rests
Do you have two finger widths space behind your knees when seated?
Are you within the safe user weight limits of the product?
Can you operate all button sizes and do you understand what every button does?
Do you require the backrest and footrest to operate independently?
When it comes to riser recliners, you need to consider much more than just colour and style. Single, dual and 4-motor chairs all have different features and benefits, with heat and massage chairs also available. Below are my favourites from each category with some tips and points to think about before buying.

If you like to sit upright and don't need the features of a riser recliner, the Kemble might suit you best.

A simple and timeless design to a fireside chair. The sturdy and upright nature of the chair offers good support to help anyone push up to stand. The winged sides allow comfort and security should you nap in the chair.
Things to consider
This chair is fixed height, so if you have pressure needs and require a specialist cushion, consider the extra height this adds to the chair and ensure this chair is still the right one for your needs. If you need a high seat to help you stand but you have short legs that then do not touch the floor, use a foot stool to support your position and reduce the pressure to your thighs.
The MaxiComfort Cloud is perfect if you need to keep your legs raised, or if you struggle to stand up from a regular armchair. As a dual action chair you have the choice of changing your back position without raising your legs, or lifting your legs but remaining sat upright, allowing you to eat while easing any ankle swelling. The neutral tone of the fabric and minimalist design helps the chair to blend in with existing furniture. Do you fall to one side when at rest? If so you may benefit from a chair with winged sides. Also make sure you have sufficient space behind the chair to allow it to fully recline.Who could benefit?

Anyone looking for a chair that reclines to an almost horizontal position will find the Strada is a good choice. Reclining fully back to horizontal this chair offers the comfort of being able to lay flat which may help if you suffer with a sore sacrum or have back and shoulder pain. With soft arm rests it offers comfort to the elbows which can also become sore on firmer surfaces. The soft armrests offer less resistance to push through when standing. The seat is deep at 49-52cm – with your buttocks against the back of chair your knees should still over hang the edge of the cushion. If it is too deep you may find you slump in the chair and worsen any back pain.Who could benefit?

The Lynton is perfect if you struggle to stand from a traditional armchair, if you find heat therapy relaxing, or if you are taller or heavier than average. Being wider and deeper than most other chairs, this design has the benefit of a contoured seat and backrest helping you to feel snug and supported. If you have mild postural problems and find it difficult to stay in the centre of the chair, the subtle lateral cushioning on this chair may help. The leather finish and neutral colours can help the chair integrate in to your existing furniture choices, while the options of heat and vibration functions can offer a luxurious feel. The heat can only be operated with the vibrations in use. Be cautious to avoid vibrating the neck and shoulder regions if you suffer with migraines, vertigo or other vestibular conditions. Although this chair reclines it does not adjust to a fully horizontal position.Who could benefit?
