The Drive Hospital Walker with Wheels is a rigid aluminium walking frame. More commonly known as Zimmer frames, they are mostly used indoors to support independent mobility. As walking frames have more points of contact with the floor they are suited to those with greater balance problems and/or weaker legs. A walker provides more support than a walking stick, redistributing weight from the legs to the arms to reduce leg pain and support the entire body.
This walker features rubber ferrules on the bottom of two of the legs which prevent the frame from slipping and two 5" front wheels. Wheeled frames allow a smoother glide across the floor surface, allowing the user to adopt a more fluent walking pattern. They are useful for people who find it difficult to use a traditional frame as they make a more continuous walking pattern possible, and do not need to be lifted off the ground to move forwards. Wheeled frames are usually chosen over non-wheeled frames when balance is the main concern, instead of reduced weight-bearing ability, as they can provide much needed support.
The Drive Hospital Walker is wider than the Domestic Walker at 66cm wide. This allows more support and a wider frame for a larger body. It is also deeper than the Domestic Walker, at 60cm, to provider greater support and stability, whilst still being manoeuvrable. When choosing a walker, consider the size of the frame base to ensure it is not too wide to go through small doorways or around tight corners.
The Drive Hospital Walker has push button height adjustable legs that range from 78cm to 84cm so you can find the appropriate height to support your every step. Soft and comfortable PVC contoured handgrips spread pressure evenly over the palms. It is also light, at just over 3kg, ensuring continued support for the legs without putting too much strain on the arms.
