Mobility scooters have given many people with limited mobility a new lease of life and an alternative option to cars and public transport. They are great for social life, grocery shopping and general quality of life. We strongly recommend that anyone who needs a mobility scooter should get one. When you take that decision, we strongly recommend that our customers take out mobility scooter insurance too. Although there is no legal obligation to do so, there are major benefits.
Protection Against Theft
It may be inconceivable that anybody would want to steal a mobility scooter. Sadly, it happens – some thieves will take anything they could possibly sell. Waking up one morning to see your essential mobility scooter missing is upsetting, but it’s also the loss of your lifeline until you get it back (if indeed, it does come back). Not all of our policies include a replacement vehicle should your mobility scooter be stolen, however. We recommend that you check the specifications of our mobility scooter insurance to choose which is right for you.
Protection Against Vandalism
Similarly, it is inconceivable that anybody would want to vandalise a mobility scooter – a lifeline for people with mobility issues. Yet it happens. Like motor insurance, some of our mobility scooter insurance packages cover vandalism no matter where such an event takes place. Vandalism is upsetting, but not as upsetting as realising that the damage means you cannot get home – a stolen part, a broken seat, controls smashed. There was even a case four years ago of a young mobility scooter using realising his brakes had been cut, making the scooter dangerous. Repairs can be expensive.
Protection Against Damage
The main reason most people choose to take out mobility scooter insurance with CareCo is protection against all types of damage. Typically, our policies cover those things that car insurance will cover. If your vehicle suffers accidental damage or breakage, you are covered. If you are hit by an uninsured driver, you are covered. Most importantly, if you have an accident in which you are deemed at fault, you will be covered. This means colliding with a vehicle or hitting a person in which injury or damage is sustained. As you would be with a car, you will be liable to pay for repairs and in the result of injury, compensation.
Breakdown Cover
Most car insurance policies include breakdown cover today. Mobility scooter insurance is no exception. Some of our policies (not all, please check the details) will include breakdown recovery. Nothing can be worse than being stuck away from home and away from help. Helpful people may assist in moving your vehicle out of the way and somewhere sheltered, but they are often unable to transport you and the vehicle home. For that you need a form of breakdown recovery. Our “Plus” insurance packages include 24/7 breakdown recovery, giving you peace of mind wherever you are.
Battery Problems and Punctures
The most common form of breakdown request is a flat battery (because it drained quicker than expected or simply died) and tyre blow out. This is a separate issue from breakdown recovery where they may be mechanical fault requiring extra attention and investigation. A simple repair or replacement, or somebody to provide a spare battery may be the only assistance you need. Check our policy types to ensure that this issue is covered should you need it.
