Pimp My Wheelchair!

Pimp My Wheelchair

Wheelchairs don’t have to be boring. Danny Longmore knows that better than anybody, and he's showing everyone with his amazing Pimp My Wheelchair project.

Having suffered from Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis since birth, Danny has always had to use a wheelchair to get around. Fed up with people staring at him, he decided to have a little fun with his wheelchair to get people looking at him for altogether different reasons.

What started out with a single LED light soon developed into what Danny calls an addiction, and his ‘pimped’ wheelchair now sports a customisable under-glow kit, nitrous oxide purge system and customised wheels.

There's also a built-in sound system as well as an 80w solar panel to help keep Danny's wheelchair running. Danny travels to car shows across the UK to display his stylish wheelchair, showing everybody that wheelchairs can be more than just a mobility aid if you let your imagination run wild.

While the wheelchair is on display, Danny collects donations for his charity (Arthritis Care), answers any questions and advertises the various companies who have helped him to modify his wheelchair.

Pimp My Scooter

Pimp My WheelchairWe first came across the Pimp My Wheelchair project on Twitter, and when Danny got in touch to see if there was anything we could do to help him get around while his wheelchair was on show we were all too keen to get involved.

Fortunately we were able to donate a CareCo Eclipse Mobility Scooter and, sure enough, Danny soon set about transforming this into a scooter worth staring at.

Immediately after CareCo donated the scooter, Danny stripped the chassis and sent the body panels off to be hydro-dipped for a new paint job.

He also had a 7” LED light bar fitted to help light the way when using the mobility scooter at night, and recently sent the seat away to get an embroidered design and a re-stitch to add a pop of colour.

Like his electric wheelchair, Danny’s scooter is kitted out with a nitrous oxide purge system and his trademark neon lights, and there is also talk of fitting ‘monster truck’ style wheels onto the gas suspension!

Danny is still working on transforming the mobility scooter. We've really enjoyed being able to help Danny out and the staff here at CareCo can’t wait to see the finished results!
